What do red pandas do when it gets cold?

Red pandas may look like little bears but don't hibernate like bears typically do. They live in the remote mountains of the Eastern Himalayas and Southwest China. They get to frolic in the snow, which also means they have to search harder for food. Bamboo is the only option for the red panda when the weather is cold.

Red pandas are heat sensitive, they like cooler temperatures. For their maximum well-being, they prefer temps between 63-77 degrees Fahrenheit ( 17-25 degrees Celsius). Red pandas lower their metabolic rate when it's really cold outside, becoming dormant. Every few hours, they wake to look for food. They spend half of their time looking for food and the rest of the day, they sleep. Sounds like a nice way to spend the day, doesn't it?

Red pandas are well adapted to the snow and handle it well. So you don't have to worry if they are safe during the winter and colder months. Red pandas are usually kept in a temperature-controlled environment if they are kept in areas that get above 77 degrees Fahrenheit, 25 degrees Celsius. They don't handle warmer temps very well. That's why you can find them in their natural habitat between 7,200 feet and 13,800 feet elevation throughout the Himalayas.

The  picture below are of the Himalayan Mountain Range, the red pandas' natural habitat. These photos may not be the exact area the red panda live, they show you the mountain range that their habitat is within. Such a pretty view, don't you think?
