Tips and Tricks For Making Your Bar Soap Last Longer

Some people come into their natural soap journey expecting the same results as the chemical-filled bars at the store. You will notice a difference in the way natural soap feels on your skin, the way it lathers, and also how to store your soap bar. There are some tricks and tips to making your handmade, natural soap last as long as possible.

Keep your soap dry.

When you aren't using it, of course. This refers to in between uses. This keeps the water from breaking down the natural ingredients. Using a soap keeper, a slotted soap dish or a rack in the shower will help keep the soap out of the standing water. Fun Fact: You may think heat would be the biggest enemy of brik soap, it's actually humidity.

Rinse the suds off

When you're done washing, make sure the suds are rinsed off your bar. This helps with the breaking down of the soap. You'll find your soap lasts longer just by doing this simple step.

Cut your soap briks into quarters or half.

Then you can use 1/4 or 1/2 at a time. The quarter briks also work well for smaller hands. This trick also allows you to change scents throughout the week. You will still want to make sure the smaller pieces aren't in a puddle of water between uses.

Allow the soap brik to cure longer.

The drier it is, the longer it will last,  Allowing it to harden longer will also keep your soap lasting. The tactic mentioned above will also give the soap time to set and cure while you're using the other piece.

Get a loofah. Or something similar.

Using a loofah or a soap saver (also called a soap sack) will get the soap all worked up into a nice, thick lather. A washcloth will work, too, but you may have to work it up a bit more to get the same sudsy experience.

When using bar soap, you'll have to recognize there's some special care. It's not as easy as opening a bottle of body wash and flipping the lid. It's not complicated care, just different. From storing to allowing extra cure time, to using soap briks. It's not only healthier for our environment, with less plastic, but it can also be better for your skin with fewer chemicals.
